Connecting to God through Jesus

We talk a lot about connecting. But the most important connection we want you to make is to connect to the God who made us. One of the core truths the Bible teaches us is that we are made to know God, to find hope, peace, comfort, and joy in him. The good news is, because of the great love of Jesus, that's really possible!

Read on to learn more.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

-Matthew 11:28-30

So how can I know God?

There's a lot of confusion on this topic, a lot of misinformation floating around. The good news is, what Jesus actually tells us is pretty simple.

For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. -John 3:16-17 (CSV)

Jesus was born to save people. He went to the cross to save people. He rose from the dead to save people. All of this is driven by the great love of God for us. So if you want to connect to God, the first step is to take the risk of believing in Jesus.

That said, it's important to understand that the kind of real faith Jesus wants us to have is about more than agreeing with what he says. It's a call to follow him, to be his disciples. And following Jesus means change for everyone who believes. The Bible tells us "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). That means we *all* need the love and grace of Jesus in order to connect to God. It also means we *all* need to change as we follow him. Here's what Jesus said.

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?

-Luke 9:23-25

If that seems confusing, we get it. It's a bit of a paradox that we find life by losing it. But that's exactly what Jesus did. He died so we could live. And now he calls us to die figuratively, to serve and love and give and help others, because that's what he does for us. The key is, it all depends on Jesus.

He is God, and yet he became a person, he suffered, and he died to set us free from our sin. We believe he is worthy of our trust, of our worship, and of our devotion. So we hope you'll join us as we follow him together.
